Mallikarjuna StonesShahabad limestone · Karnataka to the UK

Provenance

One quarry, one family, no traders in between

Everything we sell comes from our own quarry and polishing yard, Mallikarjun Stone Polishing Industries, in Miriyan village, Chincholi taluk, Kalaburagi district, Karnataka — worked by the same family for over 30 years. This is the quarry, the yard, and what we will show anyone who comes to see where their order is actually cut.

Geology

The Kalaburagi belt

Shahabad limestone is a fine-grained limestone quarried across the Kalaburagi belt of north Karnataka, and has been used for flooring and paving across India for decades. It is far less familiar to UK buyers than Indian sandstone, which is the gap our export channel is built to fill.

Our lease covers a working face with beds averaging 40–70cm in usable thickness, worked to a depth of around 18 metres at the current face, giving us many decades of proven reserve at present extraction rates.

Extraction

Quarried and processed by the family

The quarry is our own lease, and we control extraction from block to finished slab. Blocks are freed along the natural bedding planes using wire saws and hand wedging, which keeps breakage low and preserves the full length of usable block for cutting.

Processing

The yard: cutting, honing and polishing

All cutting, honing and polishing happens at our own yard in Miriyan village before any stone is crated for export. Stone leaves India finished and ready to lay — nothing is sent to the UK for further processing.

The yard runs gang saws and multi-blade cutters for sizing, calibration lines for consistent thickness, and dedicated honing and polishing lines for each finish. Combined throughput runs to several hundred tonnes a month, comfortably covering container-scale UK orders alongside our existing domestic supply.

People and site standards

Workforce and site standards

The quarry and yard are run as a family business with a settled local workforce of around 60 people across extraction, cutting and finishing. All workers use standard site safety equipment, and the yard operates under a documented safety policy covering machine guarding, lifting and dust control.

Environment

Water, waste and restoration

Cutting water is recirculated through settling tanks at the yard, and slurry is dried and reused as pit backfill rather than discharged. Worked-out sections of the quarry are progressively backfilled and levelled as extraction moves across the lease.

Visiting

What a buyer can audit on a visit

We are open to buyer visits to the quarry and yard by arrangement. Give us two weeks' notice and we will plan a day covering the working face, the cutting and polishing lines, and current stock, with time to walk your own order through the process.
