Shahabad Maroon Limestone

The rarest bed we work: a deep, muted purple-brown limestone with none of the redness of a sandstone. Available in limited quantity, and best used where a single distinctive floor or feature area carries a scheme.

The bed and how it behaves

Shahabad Maroon occurs far less frequently in the Kalaburagi belt than the grey and yellow beds, so quantities are limited and continuity across a large phased job should be discussed and reserved with us up front.

The colour is a muted purple-brown, closer to a dark clay than a red sandstone, and it holds well under artificial light — which is why it tends to be specified for interior floors, hallways and feature panels rather than open external areas.

Riven and honed faces are available. Typical monthly output of this bed is 400–600m², so we recommend confirming lead time and reserving blocks for larger orders.

Installed context

Recommended applications

  • Feature internal flooring
  • Feature external paving in limited areas
  • Wall panels and linings
  • Borders and inlay against grey or cream

Not recommended for large-format continuous external paving where colour and supply continuity across phases cannot be guaranteed; confirm quantity before specifying at scale.

Finish variants

Available faces

Finish changes the slip figure, the colour reading and the maintenance regime. The finishes page carries the full comparison.

  • Honed

    Primary interior face.

  • Riven (natural cleft)

    Feature external paving.

  • Polished

Internal use only. Deepens the colour.

  • Sawn

    Bedding and rear faces.
